Great Bedwyn is an idyllic English village, positioned to the East of the town of Marlborough, this historic village has a rich history and even today is a vibrant community, with numerous clubs, societies, as well as village pubs, of which we have two, and it's own michelin star restaurant. The local shops include our own Post Office, Village Shop, Bakery, Hair Dressers, all of which provide services to the Bedwyn community as well as local villages. The church and until recently the Stone Masons are excellent examples of the local history.
The Church of St Mary's is a Grade 1 listed building and contains the remains of several crusaders and a memorial to Sir John Seymour (1474-1536), father of King Henry VIII's wife Jane Seymour. The Kennet & Avon canal, originally built in 1799, runs through the village and their is a wharf allowing access to the canal. The Bruce Trust operates several canal boats from the wharf, providing disabled, disadvantaged or elderly people along with their family, friends or carer's, canal boat holidays and experience days. The Wiltshire Cycle way, bridle paths, public rights of way and it's on railway station makes Bedwyn a wonderful place to live or visit. The surrounding area is steeped in history including the Savernake Forest, the town of Marlborough, Wolfe Manor, Wilton Windmill, Crofton Beam Engine, to have just a few extraordinary locations close to the village. Bedwyn is also a short drive from Avebury Stone Circle, Silbury Hill, West Kennet Longbarrow and plenty of other historic locations. This site is dedicated to the individual, societies and groups, that make Bedwyn a great place in which to live, work and enjoy the unique pleasures of the English countryside
